“Jar of Hearts” is the 2010 debut single by American singer-songwriter Christina Perri. It’s a pretty good tune about those shallow guys (you know who you are) who see women as “collectibles” and pursue the conquest of women as sport. Definitely worth a listen…especially once you get past the opening 25 seconds. Here’s the official music video on YouTube.

Fittingly, amidst a mess of iffy prison-style tattoos, Christina Perri has a heart tattoo on her right forearm. I zoomed in close on the cover art, and I’m fairly sure there’s not a heart in that jar she’s holding…

Heart-spotting Contest Entry

Thanks to Caitlin M. (Blue Dot Jewelry) for this heart full of sweetness:

For our wedding favors, we assembled little jars of wildflower honey (from Portland) and tiny corked vials of wildflower seeds. Honey and seeds — a symbolic circle of life! My dearest was in charge of filling the little vials and corking them up. I came home from work to find the following scene on the table. Definitely a keeper, this one.

The United Buddy Bears is a collection of colorful statues that have been travelling the globe to promote living together in peace and harmony. Around 140 Buddy Bears, each two metres tall, represent countries recognised by the United Nations.

A friend posted a link to some photos of the Paris exhibition of “The Art of Tolerance” on Facebook, and a few the images seem perfectly suited to this blog…

Congratulations to Malcolm L., whose photo of a heart-shaped puddle in North Yorkshire – snapped during his soggy coast-to-coast hike across England in August – was drawn randomly from all of September’s submissions!

Heart-spotting Contest Entry

From veteran heart-spotter Darren L.:

This is one of the wonderful gifts we received at a recent family celebration party. Hot plates are always handy, but this heart shape really makes it special. If you look closely, there appears to be a little red heart-shaped rock peeking out. Plus, it was handcrafted by Rock Stuff on Vancouver Island – the birthplace of this blog!

As a rustic counterpoint to Monday’s post (The Road to Love), I offer this woodsy submission from Tony B.:

We spotted this one during our hike today on the banks of the Englishman River near Parksville, BC.

My kids were watching reruns of reruns on Family Channel yesterday afternoon, and during one of the absurdly long commercial breaks I caught a glimpse of Katy Perry (pop star cutie) in a dazzling heart-adorned dress (see below). As I was trying to track it down through Google, I came across this video of Christina Aguilera’s “Bionic Medley” performance at the 2010 MTV Movie Awards.

At 3:23 the hearts begin. And at 4:03ish, keep a close eye on Cristina Aguilera’s crotch. Yup…her crotch. Don’t you just ♥ pop stars?
