I’m watching the UFC 148 Prelims on Sportsnet right now; and a few minutes ago – during the intros to the Lightweight match between Gleison Tibau and Khabib Nurmagomedov – referee Mario Yamasaki flashed the heart-shaped salute pictured below to the camera.
I’ve seen him do it before. Does anyone know the significance?
i think it means “heart of a fighter”
That…or he was telling Joe Rogan he’s no longer mad about what happened after the Silva/Prater bout in UFC 142.
It’s the new thing. People used to flash a hang loose hand gesture, devil horns or an “I love you” in sign language. Now it’s this.
It’s just the new thing. People used to flash hang loose, or devils horns or I love you in sign language. Now it’s this.
So Mario is a Belieber? Or a Lady Gaga wanna-be?
I was at the Blue Rodeo show at Cowboys the other night and a girl up front was holding her hands up like this referee with Jim Cuddy in the middle/background and her friend was taking a photo of her hands. Jim in a heart- how lovely! Wonder how it turned out. I was too busy watching Jim & singing along to ask. We were all feeling the love though!
And all the while you were thinking to yourself, “In your eyes I see that perfect world. I hope that doesn’t sound too weird. And I want all the world to know that your love’s all I need…all that I need!”
I know all about you and Jim!

The likes of Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and Janet Jackson are all well known hand-hearters. But it was pop music cutie Taylor Swift who popularized the practice, and she even claims credit for inventing it. (Read all about it at jezebel.com.) […]
