Heart-spotting Contest Entry

Thanks to Ingrid L. for these 96 seconds of unexpected smiles and joyful surprises…

Great little upbeat feel-good video. Made me think of your blog, especially the end message.

YES! Let’s look at the world a little differently…

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Nine-year-old Emmaleigh has a heart. In fact, she has lots of them. And she’s selling them to support Inn from the Cold –  a Calgary organization that provides emergency shelter, support and programs to homeless children, their families and others in need.

For a donation to her “Have a Heart” campaign, you can purchase one of Emma’s beautiful heart paintings. She plans to donate all of the proceeds to Inn from the Cold. You can view her collection of masterpieces here.

Congratulations to Barack Obama, who this evening won Ohio and five other swing states to surpass 270 electoral votes and secure another term as President of the United States.

As for Mr. Romney…well, what becomes of the broken hearted?

From seasoned heart-spotter and human rights advocate Darren L.:

This sticker was handed to me at a meeting recently by an adult advisor to a new youth anti-discrimination group in Calgary. I love their word cloud and design choice, and I’m inspired by their efforts to improve their community.

“Jar of Hearts” is the 2010 debut single by American singer-songwriter Christina Perri. It’s a pretty good tune about those shallow guys (you know who you are) who see women as “collectibles” and pursue the conquest of women as sport. Definitely worth a listen…especially once you get past the opening 25 seconds. Here’s the official music video on YouTube.

Fittingly, amidst a mess of iffy prison-style tattoos, Christina Perri has a heart tattoo on her right forearm. I zoomed in close on the cover art, and I’m fairly sure there’s not a heart in that jar she’s holding…

Heart-spotting Contest Entry

Thanks to Caitlin M. (Blue Dot Jewelry) for this heart full of sweetness:

For our wedding favors, we assembled little jars of wildflower honey (from Portland) and tiny corked vials of wildflower seeds. Honey and seeds — a symbolic circle of life! My dearest was in charge of filling the little vials and corking them up. I came home from work to find the following scene on the table. Definitely a keeper, this one.

The United Buddy Bears is a collection of colorful statues that have been travelling the globe to promote living together in peace and harmony. Around 140 Buddy Bears, each two metres tall, represent countries recognised by the United Nations.

A friend posted a link to some photos of the Paris exhibition of “The Art of Tolerance” on Facebook, and a few the images seem perfectly suited to this blog…
