Just when you thought the badness of yesterday’s pun couldn’t be outdone…ta-da!

Heart-spotting Contest Entry

Here’s another heartwarming submission from Zenna L.

Yes…opposites do attract.

Yikes! As I was making the draw* for November’s Heart-spotting Contest winner, it occurred to me that I fully forgot about the draw for October. So, I have two winners to congratulate today…

With four entries in October alone, Sylvia W. (now a two-time winner) affirms the fact that the more obsessive the heart-spotter, the greater her chances of winning. Her winning entry, titled “Dogs Need Love Too”, was drawn from among the 12 entries published in October.

Tony B.‘s “Cidery Hearts” was drawn from the 12 great submissions published in November.

The winning entries are posted below…

NOVEMBER 2012’s HEART-SPOTTING CONTEST ENTRY
There are hearts galore in this submission from Tony B. (look closely at the outer edges of the painting). He spotted this Portuguese pottery style painting in Vancouver Island’s Merridale Estate Cidery.

Get in on the Heart-spotting Fun…and Win!

Once again, I invite readers to submit photos and ideas from your own heart-shaped worlds. There’s a new Heart-spotting Contest every month, with a fun heart-shaped prize up for grabs.

Heart-spotting Contest Entry

Yet another heart-shaped gem from Sylvia W.

Two, actually:

While photographing Holstein dairy cows recently in Delta, BC, I was captivated by two young cows who shared both an enclosure and a heart-shaped mark on the forehead. Who could resist such sweet, innocent faces…especially when they had love written all over them (literally)?

Heart-spotting Contest Entry

There’s just no stopping Sylvia W. – heart-spotter extraordinaire:

Our rescue greyhounds were gifted these delectable treats, and we were rather surprised to see they were made with love. Real love. In the shape of wheat-free, no-extra-preservatives-added hearts. I’m not sure the canines noticed as they swallowed them whole in less than 10 seconds; but as we all know, pet food marketing is meant for people, not pets.

Sylvia W. came across this image on her Internet travels and sent it my way. I have no idea if the image has been doctored, but I like it a lot…both as a pretty picture and as a thought-provoking metaphor.

In matters of the heart, patience is often rewarded.

There’s nothing like being able to recall the lyrics from a 1972 hit single to make a guy feel old. The saving grace, I suppose, is that I’m remembering Donny Osmond’s cover of “Puppy Love” and not the original (1960) version by Paul Anka and Annette Funicello, which was waaaay before my time.

Whenever I think of puppy love (or “kitten love,” as it’s also called), I think of Miss Clark – my Grade 1 teacher. She was adorable; and even though the infatuation was entirely one-sided, I always recall her with fondness. (I can’t help but wonder if things would have turned out differently had it not been for the pants-wetting episode. Sigh.)

Here’s a little heart-shaped puppy love and kitten love to make your Thursday afternoon warm and fuzzy…
